I’ve struggled with my own health and what it means to be healthy and happy for years.

Growing up I had constant issues with my gut health. I was constipated a lot and would experience acute pain episodes after eating. I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome when I was nine years old. Then, in my early 20s, I began experiencing hormonal symptoms and not long after I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovaries. This was when I made a promise to myself that I was going to prioritise my health.

So the following nine years, I researched everything I could on health and wellbeing and saw numerous healthcare professionals. I tried every fad diet and get-fit-fast exercise regime you can think of. But I guess I had to learn the hard way.

Quick fixes are just that, quick fixes. They don’t take an educated and holistic approach to each individual’s health and wellbeing.

I have been able to maintain a healthy weight and active lifestyle by combining different eating plans and seeing multiple health professionals, who are experts in their field. We hear that ‘balance is the key’ all the time – and it’s true.  

You need to devote time to learning what is normal for your body: Know what it likes and doesn’t like and what makes you feel healthy and happy.

At Rafiki Love we don’t believe you should be living a specific lifestyle or have a particular diet. In fact, I’m more focused on supporting others to start their own health journey, in whatever shape or form that may be.

I want to help other wonderful humans get-to-know their body, what it likes and what it doesn’t like. What feels good for someone might not feel good for someone else, and that’s OK. We’re all different. But at the end of the day, we all just want to be healthy and happy, and feel loved.  

Since starting my own health and happiness journey I have thrived and I know it’s thanks to all the positive, supportive friends, family and health professionals around me. Now, I want to create a community where people have the opportunity to explore their health and wellbeing like I have.

I’ve been a registered nurse since 2011 and started my naturopathy course in 2016. But it all began in 2012 where I spent six weeks volunteering at a hospital in Kenya. This is where I met my husband, who was also a student nurse. This experience opened my eyes to the importance of community and surrounding yourself with your tribe in order to find health, happiness and self-love.

Rafiki means friend in my husband’s language, Swahili. I believe our name, Rafiki Love, sums up what we’re all about: Individuals embarking on their own journey of health and happiness with the support of their community.
